Peace Officer Research Association of California (PORAC)

The following guidelines apply for all law enforcement officers who are participants in the PORAC Legal Defense Fund through their union or association and desire legal representation by the Law Offices of Bobbitt & Pinckard, A.P.C.

Step One:  After being served with a written notice of discipline, notice of adverse action, or notice of termination by your department, you should contact the PORAC Legal Defense Fund at (800) 255-5610 during normal business hours to receive an "authorization number".  You should contact your union/association to determine the PORAC Plan under which you are seeking coverage.  Not all PORAC LDF Plans cover all levels of discipline or all legal contingencies.

If you are involved in an after-hours critical incident, such as an officer-involved shooting requiring immediate legal assistance, the PORAC LDF phone system will direct the caller to an answering service who will then make the proper notifications to our office and/or the on-call attorney who will handle your case.

Important:  Your disciplinary package will normally contain a deadline to respond to the notice, after which time you have waived your appeal rights.  If you intend to obtain legal counsel for your appeal, it is critical that you adhere to the response deadlines.

Step Two:  Once you have received your PORAC LDF authorization number, contact our office to make arrangements to meet with either the Legal Office Administrator or an attorney.  We will need copies of any disciplinary documents you receive from your department.

Step Three:  Our office will contact your agency to secure your right to appeal the disciplinary action.  While we cannot guarantee the outcome, the Law Offices of Everett L. Bobbitt will provide the best possible legal defense for each individual client.
